Walkthrough- Blog post #2
The halls are filled with a sea of green, art of current
and past students, poetry and stories along the walls. Powerful words are
placed on walls showing the world who Buckeyes are -bold and united. Most
importantly, the school is filled with students. Individuals full of sleep
deprivation with the mouths of sailors. This reality is missing on the walls.
The school only shows the best parts-beautiful art and amazing music-but never
the worst. No failing kids and no hormonal “annoying” teenagers will ever get
aspects of their identity on the walls. The adults walking around look no
happier than us, walking around reminding us of the incomplete work that we
have yet to start due to the storm of work from other classes. Though each
“Buckeye Lesson” that we do attempts to teach-more like force-us the values of
the school, a small walk down the endless halls-listening to the students-will
prove otherwise.
There are however, amazing things that this school does.
Spirit week, grade wars, gym riots-each are high lights of the school. Hearing
the laughter and the joy while walking past the gym is a great sensation.
Seeing groups of friends taking photos in front of their grade’s wall is
amazing. Most importantly-dogs. We have these amazing creatures to bring us joy
during stressful times.
I do wonder however, whether or not the depression and
anxiety in the school is cause by ourselves or others. Mountains of homework or
the false feeling of being overwhelmed? Lack of motivation or lack of
sleep? A matter of opinion I suppose,
however both the school and ourselves can do thing to help our experiences.
Less complaining on the student’s part and more understanding on the teachers.
High school can either be an amazing 4 years-or it can be the worst. Let’s try
to stay clear of the latter.
