I think that this school has an identity to itself and it really does push it onto the students. The staff certainly endorses this identity, which leads to a lot of people feeling that it’s forced.
The school is constantly reinforcing and endorsing student participation in all things around the school through clubs, sports, or class. Unfortunately this has the unintended side effect of creating a forced feeling in anything related to school spirit.
Personally I think that it's over-emphasized by students who refuse to immerse themselves in the schools identity. Spirit weeks are prime examples of this effect, with a large amount of students simply enjoying the occasion and the opportunities it presents, while other run their "Bah Humbug" routine in order to remain in their supposedly superior and aloof position.
I suggest letting yourself participate in and enjoy everything the school has to offer in order to leave your mark. There are grad photos and trophies from 30+ years ago, so everyone who tried to leave their mark succeeded and it has lasted.
This got a little off topic faster than I expected. In short, enjoy your school and its identity, because you are now a part of it.

good points, if you felt it went off topic its better not to mention that and instead try to relay it back to a point, because i feel that it wasn't to off topic
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Carter. I don't think it got off topic either, but I think by saying that it got off topic it added to the conclusion.
