Does your teacher drown you in fate versus freewill? Do you want to talk about anything else? Well too bad! Fate vs. freewill what does other forms of litarature have to say. (blog #3) Carter
The Alchemist written by Paulo Coelho has a very strong option on fate vs. freewill, Coelho pushes fate and Personal Legend from the beginning of the novel all the way to the end. Coelho is a Christian and believes everything happens for a reason, so that brings me to the article on fate and free will in the church.
The church believes that god has a path for everyone to follow and if you stray away from that path you suffer the consequences, this idea is present in The Alchemist with many characters and symbols. The Baker didn't follow his Personal Legend and was unsatisfied with his life, the Alchemist tells Santiago of his future if he stays in the oasis he will live happy for the first few years and then he will suffer as the Baker did.
As for what Hinduism says about fate they don't believe nor deny fate, believing fate can change based on your actions today. This does not really relate to The Alchemist either than the caravan driver, the caravan driver didn't like to think about the future or the past and Preferred to live in the present ready to die at any moment.
Sadly no quote that I can think of for fate vs. freewill. So "How could this happen to me? I've made my mistakes Got nowhere to run The night goes on As I'm fading away I'm sick of this life I just want to scream How could this happen to me?" - Simple Plan. As I have mentioned before, personally I believe the same way as the church does. I don't think anyone could determine if I choose to go left or right, but I do know there is a plan for me and I hope to achieve that plan.

DeleteCarter, I heard that your plan used to be to become a NASCAR driver. Is this true, or has this plan changed? Do you think people's plans for life can change as they get older or do different things?
ReplyDeleteBut wouldn't Caelan have arrested him?
