I've been roaming around Always looking down at all I see Painted faces, fill the places I can't reach (blog number 2) carter
With 36 years worth of graduation pictures on the walls (1980-2016) and people of all origins and backgrounds roaming the hall Miles Macdonell Collegiate, this high school is different to everybody who attends. What I see when I roam the halls is that the artistic side of MMC tends to dominate the halls with art from students and advertisement for up and coming projects, when I say art I mean like band, art program, and drama. The athletic side of are school tends to have the control of the cafeteria hallway, that hallway is full of trophies and awards. In the language hallway there are poster about speaking French, a few posters for mental health and a single poster for aboriginal awareness. I nearly missed these posters and I normally miss these posters everyday. For some reason we have a large and colourful poster for gender and sexuality at the office, but tiny and bland posters for mental health in a corner of the school 80% of us don't use. Can someone explain how who you're interested in as a partner is more important than mental health and or aboriginal heritage. I mean I know it is for a club for the LGBT community, but why does this get a spotlight of mental health? when you look at it, who you are attracted to is more of a sub-category for mental health and it feels like pandering to certain groups, leaving others to sit on the wall no one looks at.
Sorry there, don't know what came over me. It is just one of my pet peeves. Anyway, I am in the band program and love to see the stuff about what we are doing in the hallways. The school matrix is in the tunnel and explains how the "good" student should look and act in and outside of school, by those standards I seem to fit as a good student. When it comes down to it, the student is always in control of how they act, dress and who they mingle with. I have always believed that if you want to change how people see you as a person, to change who you hang out with because the human mind can adapt very quickly without even noticing it. Some teachings from Master Yoda tells us of the power of knowledge and getting up when we fall down. " In a dark place we find ourselves, and a little more knowledge lights our way." -Master Yoda. To me MMC is a safe workplace and I am proud to say i am a buckeye.

ReplyDeleteYou did a good post, I was able to understand it very well and for all your points you showed evidence.
ReplyDeleteI agree, why is sexual orientation something more important than our mental health? You made some great points there.
