The Scientific Spectulation Behind Free Will
Science says a lot about many different topics, and the majority of the time I have to agree with what scientists say. But when it comes to free will I don't know what to think.
In the 1980s, American psychologist Benjamin Libet claimed to have demonstrated that humans do not have free will. He did so by discovering that the electrical activity that builds up in a person's brain before he or she moves, for example, their hand, occurs before they even make the conscious decision to go move. Although this makes a good argument, I can't say that this doesn't prove that humans can't make decisions for themselves. Scientists and civilians alike also believe that free will is just an illusion. They claim that the brain convinces itself that it made the choice from the options after the decision has been made.
Although I believe heavily in the science world, I can't say I completely agree or disagree. I'm on the fence. my thoughts on fate and free will are fairly simple; everything happens for a reason. People make decisions every day, ranging from small ones to life changing choices, and they are all made for a reason, whether or not the outcome is to be desired.
