One of the best known stories from the Bible is the story of Adam and Eve. God created a garden in which Adam and Eve were free to eat the fruit of any tree but one. The tree in the middle of the garden, the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. As the story goes on, Satan in the form of a snake comes and convinces Eve to eat from the tree. Eve then invites Adam to do the same. God returned and although Adam and Eve attempt to hide God finds them and confronts them on the topic. After finding out the truth God tells them to leave and the Garden of Eden. That from now on they must make clothes and grow their own food that nothing will be easy, even childbirth.

Christians believe God is all-knowing and all-powerful, that he already knows what we will do before we do it. The question is whether or not God has pre-determine our fate or has granted us with free will. Christians although believing in the same God they can have different opinions on this case.

Is it that God knows what we plan to do and he stands back watching us, observing. Or is it that he has decided for us and we have no control as to what will happen next. If God truly loves us if we are children of God I believe like any parent he would guide his children but let them grow and learn for themselves.

Hinduism is an interesting mix of fate and free will.

They believe that it is fate the moment we are born, the family we are born into and the challenges we face in life is all created and determined by sanskara. (Similar to karma or past actions.) Hinduism is based off the belief that our past decisions and actions determine our future. When you think of it a great example of this is fighting with a friend. If your friendship ends you no longer hangout or maybe even end up hating each other and both parties make new friends, trying new things and going new places. If you were to stay friends then you might not meet many new people and your experiences change.

Christianity believes God knowns and guides his children. While Hinduism believes everything is determined from past decisions. What do you think?

  2. I think that in some way everything is built on our past rather than a God guiding us on our path.
